Today in Sports History

On March 21, 1968, the newest American League franchise from Kansas City took the name Royals.  The "Royals" name originates from the American Royal, a livestock show, horse show, and rodeo held annually in Kansas City since 1899.

The Royals would go on to win two pennants (1980 and 1985) and one World Series (1985), but until something as hilarious as George Brett's pine tar incident from July 24, 1983 occurs again, the Royals will forever be remembered for this image...
